Monroe, La (KNOE 8 News)- Fans from across the south bought tickets for the R. Kelly event at the Monroe Civic Center. Flyers called it a birthday extravaganza, but ticket holders expected something else. “The advertisement online through Ticketmaster said that it was a Ced’s All Black Affair and R. Kelly performing live which did not happen last night,” says a concert goer that wishes to remain anonymous. The concert goer gave KNOE reporter Jeremy Pierre footage of the concert that she believes R. Kelly didn’t even attend. Instead an impersonator was sent in Kelly’s place.
“We was scammed because 10 o’clock we was there, no R. Kelly. 11 o’clock no R. Kelly, 12 o’clock no R. Kelly, 12:45 no R. Kelly. 1 o’clock here comes an impersonator,” the concert goer says. We reached out to the party’s promoter, Cedric Johnson and in a response via text message. Quote “I’m sorry. I got duped,” says Johnson. The text message went on to say that refunds would be given. After airing this story earlier Sunday, Cedric Johnson contacted KNOE saying the text message sent to our Jeremy Pierre from his phone, did not come from him. It’s unclear whether refunds are being given at this time.
I sneaky love this club promoter. Who’s the hottest artist in the streets these days? Honestly probably Drake or Jay Z but who gives a fuck, if there is a demand for R. Kelly Cedric Johnson is going to supply him. Or at least a guy in a bandana, pretzel shirt and sunglasses lip synching to one song then leaving the stage.
And just like Cedric said, that text message from his personal phone? Not him. You know how that goes. Sometimes you throw a fake R. Kelly concert then get your phone hacked telling a reporter that full refunds will be provided. Seen it happen millions of times.
If I’m doing an anonymous interview I think I’m having the camera’s focused on my shoes, or maybe my knees, or basically anything besides my fat gut.
