I Don’t Like The Fact That Toews Decided To Fight A Guy Named “Jumbo” Last Night, But I Respect The Fuck Out Of It
Was it a tiny bit psycho to start a fight with a guy nicknamed Jumbo? Yes. Is it always a bad idea to have your best player get a major and miss significant ice time because he was taking punches to the head, especially with a history of concussions? Most definitely. But god damn you have to at least respect the fact that Toews wasn’t scared to go after Thornton. These two have bad blood. Mostly because Toews is a significantly better hockey player and Thornton loves to chip and do sly shit on the side when the refs aren’t looking. So even though I really dont ever want to see Toews fighting, like ever again, you have to at least respect that fact that he was fed up and sent a message to Thornton that enough is enough. Captain for a reason. But seriously, don’t fight again Toews, it just looked weird. Stick to your bread and butter, dominating hockey games.
*Just to clarify. Obviously Toews asked for that fight and instigated it 100%. My point was, if you’ve watched these teams in the past few years Thornton has been egging Toews on every chance he gets. There’s history here, and that was why Toews did what he did.

BIgcat, I just lost a lot of respect for your hockey knowledge. Thornton is one of the most respected players in the league by coaches, GMs and other players. I like Toews a lot, but he was a bitch throughout that entire sequence. Thornton could have left him a bloody fucking carcass on the ice if he even halfway wanted to fight (which it was obvious he didn’t).

Sometimes a captain just tries to do what is best for the team to win on a particular night and maybe a spark with a fight is what they needed last night – and yes Toews instigated the whole thing and yes he started a fight with a visor, but waking the team up was the goal and he was successful in doing that.
Bad move. Took the penalty then continued to yap at Thornton. Then instigated the fight without taking his helmet w/visor off? I’d be pissed if Ryan Callahan ever pulled that shit.
A few things that are wrong in this comment section from a kid that actually played hockey:
1) Thornton took a dive;
2) Thornton took cheap shots on Toews last year, so no need to take the visor off;
3) Toews wasn’t being cheap by starting to throw, Jumbo could’ve started throwing at any point;
4) Toews is more respected than Jumbo;
5) Toews was sending a message;
6) There isn’t a team in the league that would take Thornton over Toews…including SJ
Thornton is a good fighter and one of the strongest players in the NHL. When he was in Boston, he beat a lot of guys up. He is a better player than Toews, maybe the best true play-maker with the puck since Adam Oates. Him along with Chara are the two toughest franchise players in the NHL. He does not fight why the hell would he? He could have killed Toews and with his history of concussions could have probably ended his season. Thornton looked like an adult school teacher there wondering why the 3rd grader was attacking him. Toews was a moron right there and could have seriously gotten hurt!
