Django Unchained Slave Action Figures Discontinued
Chicagoist - Marking victory for several African American groups, the controversial line of Django Unchained slave action figure dolls has been discontinued. As if the film itself didn’t attract enough heat, the accompanying doll collection managed to piss off notable civil rights groups, who swiftly called for a national boycott of the products.
The action figures have officially been discontinued after complaints sounded from said groups, including Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network and Project Islamic Hope. Additionally, a Change.org petition to stop the sale of the dolls began circling shortly after news of the collection broke and has since garnered nearly 19,000 signatures. The Weinstein Company responded to the fire by asking the National Entertainment Collectibles Association to halt production immediately.
Designed as replicas of the western slave revenge tale’s unforgettable characters, the dolls came clad in tailored clothing and armed with weaponry. Django (Jamie Foxx), Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson)—the gang was all there, insulting many and begging the question: funny or offensive?
Alright not saying that I disagree with this decision whatsoever but did anybody bother to think about all the poor rich white kids who are gonna buy the Leo DiCaprio slave owner action figure and have no slaves to boss around? Kinda sucks to be them right? Seriously what’s the point of having an 1850′s plantation owner without slaves? Defeats the whole purpose of buying one in the first place. Now it’s just a movie star dressed like some idiot from 150 years ago. And another thing. What’s Project Islamic Hope doing getting involved here? Like no offense guys but mind your own business. You don’t have a dog in this fight so just tend to your own battles. Honestly I feel like people are just trying to bring the white man down and they aren’t even thinking of the repercussions.

Good blog but I have so many questions. I’m picturing little kids playin Django. Does Jaime fox’s figure come with chains? Does Leo come with a whip? Is there an action figure boat to bring the slaves over? These are sure to be collectors items.
these are evil versions of cabbage patch dolls
We all know the Rev. Al is playing with a set of these right now – and has another set still in the boxes to put on e-bay in a few months….
