San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith will not play Monday night against the Chicago Bears because he he was unable to get clearance from a neurologist one week after suffering a concussion, according to sources. Colin Kaepernick will start in Smith’s place in a game that will also feature Jason Campbell as the Bears’ starter because Jay Cutler has been declared out, also because of a concussion. Smith, who is ranked third in the NFL with a 104.1 passer rating, practiced in a non-contact black jersey last week and took part in most of the drills involving the first-team offense. Smith, who has made 28 consecutive starts, was injured during the first half of a 24-24 tie with the St. Louis Rams in Week 10 and left the game midway through the second quarter. Kaepernick replaced Smith after the injury and was 11 of 17 for 117 yards and rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown against St. Louis.
Jason Campbell vs Colin Kaepernick, that’s what I’m fucking talking about. Showdown.
I don’t think a game has ever gotten this sloppy before a snap in the history of the NFL. Both quarterbacks concussed. Harbaugh had a heart attack. Ditka had a stroke. This is some survival of the fittest type of shit right now. Whoever is standing at 11 pm tonight wins. And you know what, I fucking love it. We never play well in San Fran. Ever. So maybe if everything is completely atypical that will change too. At least that’s what I’m telling myself every time I think about Jason Campbell getting sacked or throwing it 2 yards to the checkdown tonight.
I know Kaepernick is some freak athlete but athletic ability aside, he has to be shitting himself right now thinking about his first start on Monday Night Football against this defense.
