Went to BWW to watch the Hawks and asked this bartender what his tat meant. Tells me he’s some kind of ‘lights out’ beer pong player. Long story short, he gets completely hammered one night and his friends convince him to get this ‘clutch’ tattoo. He goes on to tell me that it’s in a good location because it’s the last thing people see when they play him.

I really don’t have much to add to this. I mean like John said, guy told him he was “lights out”. I guess if you’re lights out at a college drinking game the only logical thing to do is get a tattoo that will be on your arm for the rest of your life. Total “hands are tied situation”, what’s he supposed to do? Not be clutch. Sorry, it’s in his blood.

(source) The athletic director of Evanston Township High School has pulled the varsity baseball team from the state playoffs after “inappropriate photos” of girls at the school were distributed among some players, officials said.

The team was supposed to play Taft High School in the first round of playoffs Friday evening. But the school informed the Illinois High School Association that it would forfeit the game — and hence the playoffs — because there were “not enough players to play the game,” said IHSA assistant executive director Craig Anderson. Anderson said he was told by the school’s athletic director, Chris Livatino, that the decision was made “because of suspensions and disciplining of players.”

“This would have been the opening game,” Anderson said. “I’m sure it’s disappointing.” Livatino could not be reached for comment this morning. In a letter to parents and guardians, ETHS Supt. Eric Witherspoon said the district had received a report that girls at the school had sent “inappropriate photos of themselves to ETHS boys who were members of the varsity baseball team, and some of the boys, in turn, were circulating the inappropriate photos.” In the letter, Witherspoon cautioned that “the incident above is not an isolated one. We know that as more and more young people become connected in the digital age, sexting will remain a top concern for parents and educators. Please take the time to educate yourself and your child about the consequences of sexting.”

“The incident above is not an isolated one”. Sooooo you mean this is exactly what teens do right? This is part of being in high school and being a young adult? That’s what you’re saying. So why not instead of trying to explain what is right and wrong let’s just not let anyone play baseball. That sounds great!

Here’s the biggest problem I have with this whole situation. All of these kids are going to go to college next year or the year after. Do you know what they’re going to do? They’re going to underage drink, they’re going to have sex, they’re going to do things they will probably regret. Trying to keep them all in some little safe haven coocoon makes zero sense. Its a fucking sext. No one died. No one crashed their car. No life is going to change. Banning the whole baseball team is just making it a billion times worse. Trying to get young people to stop doing what young people do makes it a billion times worse. And not letting a bunch of seniors play in the state tournament, taking away one of the best moments of their young lives, is so over the top it’s absurd. Common sense completely gone in Evanston I guess.

I have been trying to convince myself and anyone that would listen that the Blackhawks have been in control of this series.  Well there is no denying that the Hawks are in a complete tailspin right now.  Game 4 was rock bottom.  Lines in a blender, Toews taking three consecutive penalties in the 2nd period, abysmal powerplay, and even gave up a powerplay goal for the first time in the playoffs.  Nothing is working.  Detroit is in everyone’s head.  From Quenneville on down the line up.  And even though yesterday was a disaster, they still only lost by a goal.  It’s been that kind of a series.  Murphy’s Law for the Hawks and still keeping it close.  The last two games felt like they were just out of their reach.  Long road ahead, but the Hawks are due for a break in this series.  I am in full out panic mode, but I don’t think it’s over yet necessarily.

-Quenneville threw his lines in a blender yesterday and I didn’t quite get it.  The whole idea of switching things up is to give the team a spark and hopefully get Toews away from Zetterberg.  Obviously that didn’t work.  It’s so tough to get the matchups you want on the road and Zetterberg was Toews’s shadow last night.  Again.  I would have preferred the other approach.  Just roll with the lines that got you to this point and instill a confidence in the boys that they don’t need gimmicks if they play their game.

-Aside from the line mixing I think Coach Q has been fine.  I am tired of hearing that Babcock is running circles around him from a tactical stand point.  People are acting like Babcock invented the neutral zone trap and that Quenneville has never seen one before.  Its hockey, not rocket science.  You beat a neutral zone trap with either stretch passes(which they did with some success last night) and by generating speed off of a wheel and then using small area passes through the neutral zone.  To suggest that Q doesn’t know how to beat a trap is ludicrous. The guy has 600+ wins, two Presidents’ trophies, and a Cup.  The players have to recognize what is happening out on the ice and execute better.

-I don’t know what is going on with Toews.  It’s not like teams haven’t tried this approach before.  Kesler used to beat the shit out of Toews.  Everyone has tried to knock him off of his game forever, but this is the first time I have seen him lose his composure.  That 2-on-1 in the 3rd where Toews passed it directly to Kronwall when the right play was to shoot tells you everything you need to know.  Toews needs to settle down.  Press the reset button and be the Conn Smythe winner we have seen in the past.

-I don’t know how a team with so much talent can have struggles on the powerplay for 2+ years.  It’s unbelievable.  This is another instance where they need to stop being cute and simplify their system.  Kane specifically needs to have the puck more.  Let him attack off of the top of the circle.  He has been far too passive this series.  Borderline invisible out there.  He is most effective when he is in attack mode.  We just haven’t seen it yet.

-Duncan Keith played his best game of the playoffs last night.  He is in machine mode right now.  This is the best he has looked since 2010.  Easily the Hawks’ best player last night.  I wish I could say the same for Brent Seabrook, but woof.  Only 8:20 of 5-on-5 time last night.  Not sure if he is banged up or in the dog house, but he struggled at the start of this series so I would bet its the latter.  Really need more out of Seabrook at both ends of the ice if the Hawks are going to make a run at this.

-When did Jimmy Howard become Patrick Roy?  He has always been solid, but he has really elevated his game.  Every time the Hawks worked for a quality scoring chance Howard answered the bell.  The Hawks might set a record for bad angle shots and has mad his job easier, but he has been fantastic.  The Hawks need to make his life more difficult.  Maybe run him a couple times.  Get better net presence.  Do something, anything to get him out of his comfort zone because he is seeing everything right now.

-As I said earlier, I hated the lines last night.  HATED.  Instead of just throwing shit against the wall and seeing if something sticks, I would rather show some confidence and basically say “Fuck Detroit, we get paid too. We are the best team. Just need to play our game”.  I would make minor changes and go back to things that have worked in the past.  Saad-Toews-Hossa.  Saad played awesome in Game 3 and then was demoted.  Reunite that line. Stalberg-Sharp-Kane.  Let Stalberg attack with his speed and recover pucks, Sharp has played center in the past and maybe this will free him up in the middle.  Frolik-Bolland-Bickell.  These three have played great together at times over the past three years and I have loved Frolik’s jump in this series.  He needs a bigger role.  Kruger-Handzus-Shaw.  Shaw is still playing a little out of control.  Put his down, let him grind away and be a pest.  You also have 3 guys that can theoretically step in and win a draw.

Backs against the wall for sure, but I am not ready to bury the Hawks just yet.  They have to get a lucky break or bounce eventually.  Their compete level has been strong in the last two games.  I think they solve Howard in Game 5 and send the series back to Detroit.  Hawks in 7
